Paris: If there were any insane doubts as to the domination
of Rafael Nadal on a clay court, the 2020 French Open final at Roland Garros
has put them to rest. Hailed as one of the greatest male players in tennis
history, Nadal won in a spectacular fashion against the world no.1 Novak
Djokovic. Nadal handed the defeat to the Serbian in straight sets winning 6-0
6-2 7-5. By doing so, he has again proved why a clay court is his own dominion.
No player in the history of tennis has come close to reaching Nadal’s 13 titles
at Roland Garros. He also equalled Roger Federer’s men’s grand slam title wins
by thrashing the Serbian player Djokovic in straight sets. Nadal equalled the
records of 20 grand slam titles by Roger Federer. Novak Djokovic is behind
three grand slam wins at 17 but for now, the modern tennis history has seen the
best and peak of Nadal. And there are no signs of abating of form in Nadal and
he could only become more efficient as successful.
Winning at Roland Garros is not a new thing for Nadal. He has
had won 12 times here before but the manner how he absolutely dominated this
year’s tournament gives food for thought. How long would it take to equal or
cross Nadal’s records at Roland Garros. Is that ambition even reasonable? The
future would tell, and records in any sport are meant to be broken. But, until
then Rafael Nadal is the indisputable ruler of Roland Garros.
