Dubai: This year’s IPL is turning out to be a disaster for
Chennai Super Kings as they slipped to sixth after an out-and-out loss to Royal
Challengers Bangalore. In the past few years, Royal Challengers have become a
team with misfortune despite being loaded with indisputable talents like Virat
Kohli, AB de Villiers. The Bangalore fans loyalty towards their never wavered throughout
the years but were left with big questions year after year. The Bangalore team
may finally reward their fans in this year’s edition of IPL as they slipped
into the Top 4 position and could play in the play-offs if they keep up their
good work.
Chennai Super Kings enjoyed as one of the most if not the
most popular teams in Indian Premier League with star skipper MS Dhoni leading his
team crushing opponents. But it was the current Indian skipper Virat Kohli did
the crushing for once. He scored a magnificent 90 runs off 52 balls and the
team managed to post a decent score of 169 losing four wickets in the process.
But the total proved to be cumbersome for Chennai Super Kings as they never
looked comfortable in the second innings. Established players like Shane Watson
and Faf du Plessis left their team in the lurch and there was brief revival of
hope when the ever dependable MS Dhoni came to bat but soon fell to his Indian
teammate Yuzvendra Chahal. Chris Morris turned out to be the bane for Chennai
as he grabbed three wickets sending out some of the most important players in CSK
squad such as Ravindra Jadeja, Sam Curran and Dwayne Bravo. He managed to take out
Narayan Jagadeesan who was steadily becoming comfortable at the crease.
All in all, there were flashes of Virat Kohli’s genius which
was usually reserved when he was wearing a blue jersey rather than a red one.
If he keeps his form, Royal Challengers team and their fans would not be considered
insane if they dream of going to the playoffs or even clinch the title.
