Chennai
Super Kings cruised to victory against the defending champions, Mumbai Indians.
In the opening match with Abu Dhabi hosting this year’s edition of IPL, Saurabh
Tiwary assisted the Mumbai Indians to post a decent score of 162/9. Tiwary
scored 42 runs of 31 balls.
In the
second innings, chasing 163 runs, Dhoni decided to send the English batsman Sam
Curran and Ravindra Jadeja instead of him donning the pads and taking the
field. The move proved to be an excellent for Super Kings as Curran managed to
score 18 runs of 6 balls leading Super Kings into a safe position. In the last
over, MS Dhoni and Faf du Plessis steered Super Kings to victory.
In the aftermath,
Sam Curran labelled Super Kings skipper as a ‘genius’ saying to ESPNCricinfo, “To be honest, very
surprised I went in at number six but he (Dhoni) is a genius. He obviously
thought something. Great win in the end.”
CSK will next
play Rajasthan Royals on September 22.
