Florida: In a campaign rally addressing his supporters in
Florida, President Trump had mocked and insulted Dr. Anthony Fauci who has been
serving as the director of National Institute of Allergic and Infectious
Diseases since 1984. Ever since the coronavirus pandemic broke out in early
March, President Trump has frequently clashed with health and science experts
making contradictory statements about the virus despite having no background in
medical science whatsoever. The president downplayed the virus numerous times
which attracted sharp criticism from his opponents on Capitol Hill and the
American public in general.
Dr. Anthony Fauci, on the other hand continued to bring
awareness and provide experienced assistance in understanding the deadly
pandemic. Dr. Fauci frequently warns of following stringent guidelines to curb
the spread of the coronavirus by maintaining social distance and wearing face
masks. In many surveys, the American public opined that they were more likely
to listen to Dr. Anthony Fauci rather than the President himself. In a recent
campaign ad for President Trump, a clip of Dr. Fauci could be seen making what
seemed to be odd comments. Dr. Fauci fired back that his comments in the ad
video were taken out of context of a broader statement he made months ago. When
asked if the Trump campaign had sought permission from him to use his image and
comments to be used in the video, Dr. Fauci said that he never gave permission
to be featured in the video. He also emphasised that in many decades of civil
service to the American citizens, he never once publicly supported any
political leader or parties and always sought to stay out of the politics and
solely focused on his professional work.
In the past, Dr. Fauci criticsed the Trump’s administration policy
towards the coronavirus pandemic. Trump had also made mocking comments and
continues to undermine the expert’s opinions. Trump has said that Dr. Fauci had
got many things wrong. Despite the ongoing criticism on him, Dr. Anthony Fauci
vowed not to be dettered by the comments made by the president and would
continue to work irrespectively of political leaders opinions on him.
