INDIA SEES SLIGHT DECLINE IN NEW INFECTIONS AND DEATHS; COUNTRY REMAINS CAUTIOUSLY OPTIMISTIC

New Delhi: India has seen a modest decline in terms of new coronavirus infections and deaths on Monday. A total of 59,893 new cases and 886 deaths have been recorded in the past 24 hours. The total number of new infections and deaths due to the virus lessened comparatively to what India has seen in the past few weeks with daily cases crossing 80,000 and recording more than 1,000 deaths in a day. There is still no change in the state rankings as Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka take the top three places in India. It has been also reported that there has been a decline in cases in New Delhi but much slower than before.

Indians would have to feel cautiously optimistic about the new figures with an emphasis on cautious. Since the pandemic had began in March, the number of infections and deaths had remained minimal during the country-wide lockdown imposed by the central government. The Indian government has begun to unlock the country which has been still severely crippled economically with countless jobs lost and businesses lost. The experts believe that the Indian economy will take years before it could return to pre-covid normalcy. But, the country has to overcome the daunting coronavirus before thinking of economy as India is one of the worst-hit countries globally due to the pandemic with more than 1 lakh people have died so far.
