New Delhi: India continues to battle the insurmountable
battle against the deadly coronavirus as it registered more than 70,000 new
cases and 991 deaths on Tuesday. The death toll came under just 1,000 figures for
three days in a row. The total number of infections in the country have crossed
six million and the current death toll stands at 104,591. India has been
testing more than one million samples per day and as the experts put it out
since the pandemic began in March, wide-spread testing and an effective vaccine
are key factors to defeat the coronavirus. While the testing remains disproportionate
to the population with more than 1.3 billion people living in India, the
consistent testing shows promise of the government’s plans to fight the
coronavirus and an increase in testing will only provide more data to doctors
and experts on how to deal with the virus.
The world’s largest vaccine manufacturer Serum Institute of
India is in the process of making a covid vaccine in conjunction with Oxford
University in the United Kingdom and the British pharma company, AstraZeneca.
If the vaccine is approved to use on the populace, older people and people with
lesser immunities along with workers in health sector are poised to get the
initial doses. It is still to be seen how the Indian government will manage to
provide the vaccine doses to every Indian without any flaws but any promising
signs from the ongoing vaccine manufacture will send the government to high
gear and form a cohesive plan on how to save our country from the coronavirus.
