Paris: Serena
Williams has pulled out of the ongoing French Open tournament with an Achilles
injury. The American tennis superstar defeated Kristie Ahn in straight sets the
first round of French Open. Serena Williams was scheduled to play Tsvetana
Pironkova. Due to Serena Williams’s withdrawals from the tournament, Pironkova
will automatically proceed to the third round. Serena Williams has said that
she sustained the injury originally in the United States and she hasn’t
recovered adequately to play fully focused in Paris.
She further
told the press that she always aims to give more than 100% on court and she
doesn’t regret leaving the tournament because Achilles injuries can be
dangerous and one of the worst injuries. The 39 year old American player has
had a magnificent career spanning three decades and was set to equal the record
of Margaret Court’s 24 majors before she pulled out of the French tournament.
