Los Angeles: Showtime has
announced that the network is in the process of bringing back the famous crime
television series ‘Dexter’ The fan-favourite show ran eight seasons from the
years 2006-2013 airing more than 90 episodes. The television audiences quickly
took to the character of Dexter Morgan who works as a forensic analyst but
maintains another secret persona as a serial killer in Miami, Florida. Dexter
Morgan was played by the actor Michael C. Hall who won an Emmy Award for his
work on the series. Showtime was a relatively unknown network when it first
aired Dexter in 2006 but the hit tv series put the network and the actors and
actresses who worked on the show on the map. Since, Showtime has become a major
tv network with several hit shows such as Homeland, Billions and Ray Donovan.
Showtime ended Dexter in 2013
with the final episode airing on September 22, 2013. The show garnered acclaim
from the critics and fans throughout its original run but the ending polarised
the fans with some praising it and few others deriding it as an unjust ending
to an iconic show.
The show is set in Miami, Florida,
and shows a nimble forensic analyst Dexter Morgan working for the city police
department during the day and killing criminals at night whom he determines that
have escaped by corrupting the system.
Star World broadcasted Dexter
during its original run, and the show has garnered a decent fanbase in India as
well. It is yet to be announced if Star World would air the revival or a
different tv network would pick up the show to air it in India. In recent
years, OTT platforms such as Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney + Hotstar have
gained significant traction in India and then amplified by the current
pandemic. It is possible that Showtime would license the show to any one of the
streaming platforms.
