MANCHESTER UNITED SIGN EDINSON CAVANI

Manchester: Manchester United have signed on the Uruguayan international, Edinson Cavani on a free transfer. Cavani had left his previous club Paris-Saint Germain in June and was a free agent before he was signed by the United. Cavani is a prolific striker, a proper number 9 who has had scored at a frequent rate with all the clubs he had played previously. Cavani came to mainstream attention when he was playing for the Italian club Napoli in Serie A. He left Napoli to join the French club PSG. Paris-Saint Germain has seen a recent resurgence in their fortunes after the club was bought by Qatar Sports Investments. Cavani played alongside with some of the most popular players in the current footballing world at the Parisian club such as Neymar and Thiago Silva.

The 33-year old striker has said in a statement that he is beyond excited and honoured to be signed by a club such as Manchester United and pledged to work hard for the English club. Manchester United last won the Premier League in 2012. Sir Alex Ferguson, the legendary United Manager retired at the end of 2012 season and Manchester United found it hard to replicate success as they did during the Ferguson era with a slew of managers coming and going to the club in the recent years.

Ole Gunnar Solskajaer, the current Manchester United Manager praised incoming Cavani in a statement saying that the Uruguayan will serve as a perfect forward for the club. Manchester United was thrashed 1-6 on Sunday by the London club Tottenham Spurs. The domestic football is currently on a break with UEFA Nations League tournament scheduled to be played. The break will be welcomed by Solskjaer as it gives him ample time to reflect on the daunting loss against Spurs and make any changes to the squad if necessary. Cavani will further provide competition to the forwards Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial at the club.
