STATE BANK OF INDIA WARNS ITS CUSTOMERS OF CYBER CRIMINALS

State Bank of India on Monday has issued guidelines for its vast customer base on how not to become a victim of cyber fraud. According to SBI, cyber criminals are targeting SBI customers through WhatsApp messages and calls. SBI warned the customers of potential threats to their security by pointing out that the bank will not call customers and request their account numbers and other confidential details regarding their account in SBI. The bank also emphasised that it is not running any lottery schemes or gift offers now.

Cyber criminal activity usually begins with an anonymous message, e-mail or a call informing the victim that they had won a lottery or free gifts. The perpetrators would then ask the customers to impart their confidential bank account details which could compromise their bank account. Internet frauds have become a common place taking advantage of unassuming customers luring them with promises of lottery winnings or falsely calling them on behalf of banks to gather confidential information of their accounts.
