SHIVANGI SINGH: THE FIRST FEMALE PILOT TO BE INDUCTED INTO RAFALE AIR SQUADRON

Flight Lieutenant Shivangi Singh is set to become the first female pilot to join the Rafale Air Squadron of Indian Air Force. In the past, Lieutenant Singh flew MiG-21 Bisons and also served in a fighter base in Rajasthan. Lieutenant Singh hails from the historic city of Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. She graduated from Banaras Hindu University and was a member in 7 UP air squadron in NCC.

Lieutenant Singh had also flown with Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman who was captured by the Pakistani military forces after shooting down a Pakistani fighter jet in February 2019 days after Pulawama terrorist attack. Wing Commander has since became a national hero after he was eventually released by Pakistani government.

Lieutenant Singh is currently undergoing training that will enable her to fly Rafale jet. India ordered the manufacture of Rafale jets for Indian Air Force. France has already delivered some jets while the total delivery of fighter jets will completed by the end of 2021.
