Luis Suarez
is set to become an Atletico Madrid player which will further bolster the underdog
team which was able to defy the odds numerous times. Suarez has won several
trophies during his tenure at Barcelona including a Champions League title and
played alongside one of the greats in the modern era, Lionel Messi. Still, he
racked up a very impressive record of becoming the third-highest goal scoring
forward for the Catalunya team. After Suarez was made aware that he will not be
in the future plans of the new manager, Ronald Koeman, Suarez insisted he
wished to stay at Camp Nou. Atletico Madrid came knocking with favourable terms
and Suarez is set to move to Madrid unless club’s president Josep Bartomeu. It
has been a forgettable summer for Barcelona as its most iconic player Lionel
Messi announced that he intends to leave the club amid strife with club’s
president. In the end, Messi chose to stay and Camp Nou breathed a collective
sigh.
The move can
potentially unlock the final key to success. For almost a decade, Atletico
Madrid played their own brand of football with a never surrendering attitude. Under
the management of Diego Simeone, Atletico won La Liga, Europa League, UEFA
Super Cup, defeated an all-powerful Liverpool and almost won Champions League.
Time and time again, Atletico came so close to win the elusive prestigious trophy
but only to fail in the last moment.
It is all
set to change with the arrival of Uruguayan powerhouse, Luis Striker. Suarez
cuts a divisive figure among the footballing world ever since he was accused of
making racist comments on former Manchester United player, Patrice Evra. Suarez
denied the accusations and his former teammates at Liverpool stood by his side.
Then, the bizarre biting incidents. Twice. Suarez appeared to be biting into
Chelsea fullback, Branislav Ivanovic and repeated the action on the grandest
stage of them all, Fifa World Cup, 2014. The Uruguayan bit into the shoulder of
Italian defender, Giorgio Chiellini.
