Sydney: The global ocean floors are filled with massive
amounts of plastic waste according to Australian National Science Agency. Using
a robotic submarine, CSIRO researches had collected samples in the South
Australian Coast. The agency had collected samples from 3,000 metres deep in
the coast. The results were drastic and tragic according to the researchers.
Denise Hardesty, principal research scientist was surprised by the findings
that showed humongous amount of plastic waste at such a remote location. If the
mass plastic findings at the bottom of the ocean floor at such a remote location
is any indicator, the amount of plastic waste that could potentially be found
along the coastal areas around the world would be disastrous.
According to the Australian National Science Agency, the
global ocean world has been littered with approximately 14 million tonnes of waste.
Since the advent of industrialization in 18th century, the world as
humans knew it has had drastically changed. In a race for domination, manufacturers
in Europe and North America opened up countless plants across the continents.
By the mid-19th century, the industrialization had spread to Asia,
Africa and Latin America as well. A truly global scale of manufacturing of infinite
human needs had arrived and it hadn’t stopped since. Climate activists,
researchers, environmentalists, scientists, academicians, were yelling at the
top of their lungs to save the planet. The world leaders instantly turn deaf
when any one of the people from the above-mentioned groups bemoan about the
planet’s future.
Solar energy is an excellent alternative but the global
countries pledge their transformation and transition to solar energy but their
actions remain null. The surface of this planet has already been long
contaminated and now, the researchers confirmed the worst fears of our climate
activists. Our oceans are not better off either. It is saddening to see that a
17-year old girl is more worried about our planet and our very existence than
our elected leaders.
