Stockholm: The Nobel Prize Committee in Stockholm, Sweden,
have announced its winners in the fields of Physics and Chemistry respectively.
The Nobel Prize in physics has been awarded to three scientists Andre Ghez,
Roger Penrose and Reinhard Genzel for their work on the discovery of a black
hole. The pioneering scientists were attributed the discovery of a massive
blackhole in the centre of our Milky Way galaxy. The discovery proves Albert
Einstein’s theory of relativity. According to the scientists and researchers in
Physics, the discovery of the black hole will bring forth numerous answers regarding
our universe and our very existence.
The Nobel Prize Committee has also announced the winners in Chemistry
field as well. Jennifer A. Doudna, an American biochemist and the French microbiologist
Emmanuelle Charpienter were awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for their
ground-breaking work on gene editing. The two women have discovered a technology
called CRISPR to edit the genes of animals, micro-organisms and plants to a
very high degree of precision. The scientific community has praised the two
scientists for their work on the gene editing but a few peers have raised
ethical concerns of gene editing.
