New Delhi: The Ministry of
Education has released National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) on Friday.
The release of the results was delayed briefly and on Friday night, the results
were released. Two students who appeared in the examination have score full
marks. Soyeb Aftab and Akansha Singh have both scored 720 marks out 720 in this
year’s examination. According to National Testing Agency (NTA) tie-breaking
policy, Aftab was given the first rank in this examination. Soyeb Aftab hails
from Orissa whereas Akansha Singh comes from the country’s capital Delhi. The
Union Education Minister Ramesh Sishank congratulated all the students who have
passed the examination and expressed gratitude to the concerned state officials
and Chief Ministers who had come to co-operate in what he called as ‘testing
times.’
The examination was originally
scheduled in May but owing to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the examination
was postponed to July. The examination was once again postponed to September.
The examination was conducted on September under strict guidelines and
regulations on September 13th. According to the reports after the
examination, the exam was relatively easy and the students expected to have a
higher cut-off marks than in the previous exams. The Union Minister of
Education had said earlier this month that the students who were unable to
attend the examination on September 13th would be given another
chance to attend the exam on October 14th.
The examination conducted on
September 13th went underway despite calls of another postponement,
but the ministry of education rejected the petition saying that any further
postponement of the examination would repair academic careers of Indian
students. The examination was conducted under strict rules and many changes due
to the pandemic. The seating capacity in a room was reduced to 50%, and only 12
students were allowed to sit for the exam in a room. The number of examination
centres in the country had also been increased substantially this year to
provide more ample space between the students. Students who were residing in
containment areas or tested positive for covid-19 were not allowed to take the
examination. Nearly, 14 lakh candidates have appeared this year for NEET and
7,71,500 students qualified in the examination. Students were advised to bring
a face mask but regardless, the exam centres provided a three-layer mask for
all the students.
