Los Angeles: In another blow to the movie industry and the
audiences, the new adaptation of the Gotham City crusader led by Matt Reeves
has been postponed to March, 2022. Robert Pattinson of Twilight fame had been
cast as Batman and several high-profile actors were also cast in the project which
was originally set to release in 2021. Batman fans and general audiences had
been severely divided over the depiction of Batman in DC Extended Universe. Ben
Affleck played the billionaire turned vigilant in DC Extended Universe. Apart
from Aquaman, Shazam, the audiences and critics dismissed the DC Extended
Universe but have developed a cult following whose influence has convinced the
Warner Bros Studio to release the original cut of Justice League. The original
cut of Justice League is scheduled to be released on September 21 of next year.
The movie will be released in a three-part series and will be streamed on
Warner Bros owned streaming service HBO Max.
Due to the ongoing
pandemic, several movie studios have opted to release their projects on OTT
platforms or postponed. Disney released its tentpole film of the year, “Mulan”
on OTT platform, Disney +. The movie was released to a tepid reaction from
critics and fans alike. Mulan’s response could have played a major factor in studios
to roll back the releases keeping in mind that Disney releases, particularly
aimed at younger audiences rarely flops at the box office. Christopher Nolan’s ‘Tenet’
also had a similar fortune when it was released in August. Tenet struggled at the
box office which is exceptionally rare for films made by fan favourite Christopher
Nolan who previously directed a Batman trilogy. The trilogy was widely acclaimed
by both fans and critics alike and “The Dark Knight” the second film in the
series raised the bar of comic book adaptations to gold standard. The film
business is one of the worst hit due to the deadly pandemic with several
countries still struggling to contain the virus. More than a million people
have lost their lives due to the pandemic.
