Salt Lake City: Last week, President Trump and Democratic
Presidential Nominee Joe Biden locked horns in the first presidential debate,
the Vice-President nominees Kamala Harris of Democratic National Party and incumbent
Vice-President, Mike Pence of Republican National Party faced each other at the
vice-presidential debate last night. The event took place at Kingsbury Hall in Salt
Lake City, Utah. The presidential debate last week ended in controversy as both
candidates argued ferociously against each other and was much criticised by
public and the press alike. Last night, the vice-president nominees debated
each other. The debate was moderated by USA Today Washington Bureau Chief Susan
Page. At the beginning, the moderator advised the candidates to be polite and civil
in their arguments and mind their manners because the American public deserved
a civil discussion about the current state of the country.
Kamala Harris had come out and outright said it that she would
not be taking a coronavirus vaccine if it was endorsed by the President Trump.
But she said she would not hesitate to take the vaccine if it was endorsed by
Dr. Anthony Fauci. Dr. Fauci is the nation’s top expert in infectious and
epidemic diseases and has been the director of National Institute of Allergy
and Infectious Diseases since 1984. Harris insisted that she would only take
the vaccine if it was only endorsed by Dr. Fauci or any other credible health
expert. Vice-President Pence replied that it was surprising to hear Harris
doubt the country’s president when it comes to vaccine.
Harris went onto complain that the current Trump
administration has utterly failed in its battle against the coronavirus
pandemic and if she and Joe Biden were to elected to the country’s highest
office, they would form a cohesive plan to save the American lives from the
deadly virus. More than 200,000 people have lost their lives due to the
pandemic so far and the United States rank one in world countries in terms of
total number of infections and deaths due to the virus. President Trump himself
had contacted the virus last week and was treated at Walter Reed Military Hospital
in Bethesda, Maryland. Amid much criticism, President Trump has returned to the
White House on Monday and continue to insist that he feels healthy.
The treatment of President Trump at the hospital garnered
arguments in American public and press as how an average American would be
treated compared to the President if he/she contacts the virus.
Pence accused Biden of plagiarism which effectively ended
his presidential campaign in 1988. Harris continued to blast the Trump Administration
for downplaying and minimising the coronavirus and the massive outbreak that
tore the country in half could have been prevented if the American public were
made aware of the seriousness of the virus and said they should have said what
needed to be said rather than what the American public wanted to hear. The voters
will go to polls on November 3rd.
Kamala Harris has made history on Wednesday night as she
took the stage becoming the first woman of the African American and South Asian
descent. She was born to Donald J. Harris and Shyamala Gopalan who was
originally from the Southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. She is currently serving
as the junior State Senator of California.
