New Delhi: India steadily
continues its downward trend in the coronavirus statistics with 63,517 new
cases recorded on Tuesday, and 723 people have died in the past 24 hours.
Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu are some of the
worst-hit states in India and the number of total infections being recorded per
day continues to be concerning in these states. The number of deaths this week
hovered around 700 figures as compared to more than 1,000 deaths per day in the
recent months. There is concern among the medical community that the incoming
festive season might see a resurgence in the number of infections. The experts
warn the public not to congregate in large numbers and avoid mass gatherings
during the festive season as large groups would be super-spreader events. If
the super spreader events do occur, the number of new infections would
overwhelm the fragile medical care system in India. The oncoming winter season would also provide
challenges in facing the pandemic as the viruses tend to double up especially
during winter months. With these forecasts, the Indian public are advised to
stay indoors if possible, regularly wash hands, avoid mass gatherings and
always wear a face mask when going outside. Social distancing is one of the key
tools available for the individuals to prevent contact with the coronavirus.
People are advised to maintain at least six feet of distance from other people.
It was also advised by the medical community that carrying an alcohol-based
hand sanitizer is a vital option in case of the unavailability of soap and
water.
The death rate in India is low
when compared to the United States and Brazil and reports of underreporting of
the deaths occurred due to the coronavirus pandemic is concerning.
