Russian
Grand Prix will commence this Sunday at Sochi Autodrom. After two thrilling
races in Mugello and Monza, Formula 1 goes east. Despite fans complaining about
Mercedes domination and overall boring competition in which Lewis Hamilton of
Mercedes is predicted to nab the driver’s championship, Monza and Mugello made
the fans remembered how bold and unpredictable Formula 1 could be.
In Monza,
everything was going according to the script until the race is red-flagged
after Charles Leclerc of Ferrari had an accident but thankfully came out
uninjured. Lewis Hamilton was given a 5 second penalty after he entered the
pits when they were closed. After the race restart, Hamilton dropped to the
last place with Pierre Gasly, Carlos Sainz and Lance Stroll took the podiums in
an unpredictable race. Fans across the world were devoid of words to describe
the thrilling race.
Formula 1 moved
to Mugello where a race of similar sorts happened. Max Verstappen was unable to
take advantage of his front row grid position after he lost power and was
involved in an accident in the first lap. Monza’s winner Gasly and Verstappen
retired. Safety car was deployed and just after Safety Car exited the track, a
massive accident took place in the back which had seen Carlos Sainz, Antonio
Giovanazzi, Nicholas Latifi and Kevin Magnussen retire. Lewis Hamilton took the
honours and Alexander Albon of Red Bull Racing took his first ever podium.
Sochi
circuit is considered to be bland by many fans in Formula 1 and Mercedes is
expected to dominate the race weekend despite having a staggering fortunes in
the last two races. Ferrari has had an utterly forgettable season with many
fans and pundits criticising the car and team strategies. Sebastian Vettel is
due to leave Ferrari at the end of the season. He will take Sergio Perez’s seat at Racing Point. It is yet to be
seen how Red Bull Racing will recover from hiccup in Mugello. After all, Max
Verstappen is the only legitimate contender to Mercedes duo.
